Symbolism of the Flag

     The State Flag of the Republic of Kazakhstan is primarily a blue color with the image of the sun in its center with a soaring steppe eagle underneath. Along the flagstaff there is a vertical band with the national ornamental patterns. 

     According to the heraldic principles the sun symbolizes wealth and abundance, life and energy. The image of the steppe eagle is commonly considered as a symbol of power, insight and generosity. The national ornament along the flagstaff reflects the art and cultural traditions of the people of Kazakhstan.

Ethnically Diverse Population

In Kazakhstan, where according to the National Statistics Agency reside 64.55 % Kazakhs, 22.35 % Russians, 2.96 % Uzbeks, 1.88 % Ukrainians and numerous other ethnicities that constitute about 1% of the population each.  This website focuses solely on the culture and history of native kazakhs, but fusions and branches of each respective culture is undeniably present.

Kazakh Traditional Dolls

Dolls existed in both a sacred and profane sense within Kazakh Culture. Sacred dolls were carved out of bone or stone and were believed to hold mystical power, ranging from holistic healing to witchcraft and corruption rites. Profane dolls were usually felted or carved out of wood, and were simply for child enjoyment.

A horse skull was found with 2 sacred Kazakh dolls lodged inside. This was most likely done as a way of sending off the spirits of two deceased children.
